I usually prefer not to talk about active eBay auctions of Mac memorabilia, but in this case- I’m out. On eBay right now is a new still in the box Twentieth Century Macintosh. Yes, I’d have loved to put it right next to my brand new still in the factory sealed box Apple IIc, but today I found out the amount I owe IRS for 2010 taxes, so I’ll have to let it pass. 🙁
The “New in the box” premium will cause this sale to smash the current TAM record. Usually, a used TAM sells for between $1000 to $1500, depending on a number of factors. And, while this TAM box isn’t sealed, it is said to be new- still in the plastic.
My guess is before it’s over the bid will be between $6500 to $8500- let’s watch. Good luck all, and don’t be surprised if the auction allure proves too powerful for me 🙂
UPDATE: 4/4/11- the auction is over and it closed at $9,999.95. If you look over the bids/bidders it is highly suspicious, based on my 12 years of experience buying and selling on eBay.
